Finally the day arrived that we have prepared for during quite a long time: our first experience of selling food at a food stall at Jakobs Dagar festival in Jakobstad. Our stand was placed very central at the festival area, very close to the main stage for concerts and other programme.
We arrived at about 8am to Jakobstad to start setting up our stand. Although we were early there were already a lot of people preparing their stands, and we hardly managed to pass with my dad's van to unload all our stuff. It took longer than expected to set up everything (the tent itself, the signs and posters, all the equipment etc), before we could start we the preparation of the food. But anyway there were not a lot of people in the centre yet this early, so it did not matter.
We had some customers early on, but a while after us another food stand opened up just next to ours, selling spring rolls, sausages etc, and that was quite tough competition for us since people here are more familiar with this kind of food than with our makaruti. So this first day of our food stall adventure was a small disappointment, we had expected a bit more customers, but at the same time we learned from our mistakes and decided to do some changes for the following day.
However, although we did not sell as much as expected it was still a fun experience and time passed quickly. At 5pm we packed up our things, and went home to rest for the coming day, Saturday, which should be more busy.
