Sad news today. I just heard that one of my favourite artists in the traditional Maltese songs scene (referred to as 'Ghana') has passed away today. I am referring to Fredu Abela better known as "il-bamboccu". He was just 59 years and I believe he died from a disease. He was a genius in making rhyming jolly songs and singing ghana. When I used to see him singing on Tv etc, he always made me smile with his joyful character and laugh with his songs. Singing 'Ghana' is quite difficult becasue it requires to invent lyrics on the spot according to what the previous singer has just sung.
