Now we walked further up on the cliffs until we reached this old stronghold, used in the past to host cannons and so protect this Eastern-most side of the island from enemy ships. This site is actually called "San Anton redoubt". By definition, redoubt is a small, and usually a roughly constructed, fort or
outwork of varying shape, commonly erected for a temporary purpose, and without flanking defenses, -- used esp. in fortifying tops of hills and passes, and positions in hostile territory.

Here we came accross to another puzzling thing. These square-shaped huge blocks of rock, obviously man made, lying on the bare rock for no reason, as if they have been discarded. We could not conclude how and why they have been thrown here, or if they formed some building and was destroyed in situ ?!

Our way was now quite easy but not much interesting. We walked for many minutes on bare rock of the hard upper coraline limestone. We were in a location called "Ras il-Qala", (Qala' point) and we were on the most Eastern part of Gozo.

Finally we arrived to an interesting site - a large cave made up of white rock and half immersed in the unbelievable cyan-coloured crystal sea waters. One can see the rock being purple-red down inside, probably covered by some marine flora. Simone suggested that this cave brings the name As the "Cathedral Cave". On the map it is indicated in Maltese as "Ghar Dorf" the former word means Cave and the latter have no definition (so probably a name for someone or somewhere).

Very near to the cave, towards the mainland, there was this enormous quarry. The rock excavated for was hard rock, not the one usually used to build houses from. The length of this quarry could have been 300 - 400 metres.

Sometime there would be a nice opening in the rock with the typical aquamarine / blue water which is really inviting for a swim. Only its temperature is not inviting (about 15 Celsius). We where approaching now an area called "Tal-Muxi"

The next anomaly that I encountered during our voyage was this flower made up of two joined flowers as a single unit. It reminded me of the Gozitan twins which where joined together as a whole body, and successfully operated to separate them.

In this part there was large area covered by a carpet of this short cute wild flower. Checking up the botanical books, it reveals that this plant called, Bebuna tal-bahar (Anthemis urvilleana), is an endemic species. It is an aromatic plant and makes part of the large daisy family (Asteraceae).
