Heroes' Square (Hosök tere) is the most
well-known symbol of Budapest. The monument
was built in 1896 to celebrate the millennium
of the Hungarian conquest of the Carparthian
Basin.
The
monument include statues of the most famous
rulers in Hungarian history. The stone tablet
in front of the main column, which on ceremonial
occasions is guarded by soldiers, commemorates
those who died for national freedom and independence.
The square is flanked on either side by the
Museum of Fine Arts (Szépmüvészeti
Múzeum) and the Palace of Art (Múcsarnok)
.

This is the entrance to the Budapest Zoo,
situated near Heroes' square.
The
zoo is about 140 years old, and has a leading
animal collection in Eastern Europe with more
than 2000 animals.

I and Malin slept one night at a luxurius
5-star hotel of the Corinthia Group called
Aqvicvm (Aquicum if v=u), situated at the
river bank of Buda near Margit Island. If
you ask if it was expensive or not, I really
don't know what to reply. It was about 40
to 50 Euros more from the normal 3-star hotels
in central Budapest, but for those extra money
you get excellent service, with a full buffet
breakfast, thermal pools, sauna, steam rooms,
and other spa stuff.
The price also included the renting of bicycles,
and this was a very important thing because
we used the bikes to go to Magrit island (some
300m away) and toured around the island in
few hours.

Photo from the buffet-type breakfast serving
all sorts of food (which makes it look as
a full launch rather than a breakfast!). Excellent
service and food as usual from Corinthia Group
Hotels.

3 pools at different temperatures (22, 32 and
38 Celcius) found at the indoor spa and pool
section of the hotel. I, Malin, Etienne and
Analise really had fun playing with the ball
in the large pool when there was no people swimming.

Probably the favourite spot of the spa for us
was this warm Jacuzzi with strong water jets
that messages your back and feet while sitting
inside. I also went to the sauna and steam rooms
found here. Some other services and therapies
were at a cost.
