Colourful buildings lining the danube. These
are found near Margit bridge, about 1km from
the Parliament.

Large sculptures situated at the columns holding
the Margit Bridge. Similar ones are also found
in the Chains bridge. They look to be 'gurading'
angels since of their wings.

This impressive building on the Pest side of
Danube river is the Parliament (Országház).
The building, which comprises of 691 rooms,
immense halls and over 12.5 miles of corridors,
has a central dome of 96-metres (precisely the
same height as that of Szent István Basilica).

The Parliament building, here seen from the
Buda side of Danube river, was built for the
millennium celebrations of 1896. The Imre Steindl
design was only finished in 1902 (the year of
his death). Inspired in part, by the Palace
of Westminster, its white neo-gothic turrets
and arches stretch for over 250 metres along
the Danube embankment.

From the 3 hotels we stayed in Budapest, my
favourite one is the Leo Panzio. The most
important advantage of the hotel is that it
is situated exactly near a Metro underground
station (Ferenciek Tere) as well as being
very near to the popular pedestrian only street
Vaci Utca. I and Malin were very lucky to
have this room with a small balcony (seen
in the photo) standing up about 10-12m high
and looking over Eszerbet Bridge and Szabat
Sajto street.
The
hotel has nice rooms, and a friendly and multi-talented
receptionist who said the he can do (used
to work) some 5or 6 different jobs and was
currentely studying latin dancing. He was
very helpful and nice and I would like to
greet him from here.
My
very first impression of the hotel were actually
not very good when I saw the scary-like outside
of the huge building (as if Dracula lives
inside!). The old style, cage-like lift also
added up some more skepticism but when we
arrived to the hotel floor, I completely changed
my opinion!
A
very good and non expensive hotel situated
centrally near a Metro station.

A dull building known as the house of Terror.
It is a museum which gives an insight into Hungary’s
turbulent recent history. Featuring the grim
decades of Nazi and Communist repression, this
new museum is housed in the former headquarters
for the secret police of both the Nazi and Communist
governments, an address that filled the heart
of the average Hungarian with dread for the
best part of 50 years. The museum has many memorable
exhibits, and the atrium features a Soviet tank
and a huge wall covered with portraits of the
victims of this building. The stylish, high-tech
exhibit is designed for Hungarians, but the
English audio guide gives tourists the same
powerful experience. This is the most expensive
admission in Hungary, but it's still cheap by
Western standards, and the experience is priceless
for anyone with an affinity for Eastern Europe’s
struggle for freedom under these brutal regimes.
Though it was in our plans to visit this museum,
it was a pity that we did not had enough time.

The most important traditional food in Hungary
is the Goulash - which basically is meat soup
spiced by their paprika.
We
often took soup of Goulash as a starter at
restaurants. The most elegantly served Goulash
soup was in this restaurant, served in these
red pots and kept warm on the table fire coming
out from a platform just below the pot. You
have to pour the soup in your plate while
the remaining soup in the pot keeps warm.
It was a large portion, however we tasted
better Goulash soup in other restaurants (or
maybe were getting used to the taste by now!)

A tasty Pizza and Hungarian Beer at a fine
restaurant found at Buda, about 100m down
from Matthias Church.
I
promised the waiter to email this photo but
I lost the email. If someone happens to know
him please tell him to contact me via this
website.
