PHOTO GALLERY:
Tallinn and Saaremaa Islands - Estonia
August 2007

Page Description

This photogallery consists of many photos from our 2007 Summer holiday in the beautiful and busy city of Tallinn (capital city of Estonia) and also a long stay at the large and peaceful Estonian islands of Muhu and Saaremaa. Tallinn is more aimed for city tours or walks, museums and church visiting, shopping, dining out, night life, etc. On the other hand, The islands of Saaremaa and Muhu are ideal for relaxation, nature-experience, quite and peaceful walks in the countryside, swimming, biking, mud spa, etc. In fact, Saaremaa is described as the islands where time stands still. It also offers a touch of history, have a medevial castle in the capital city called Kuressaare. The latter city also offers some night life, fine restaurants, and shops. Most of the islands is however adorned by untouchable nature parks, meadows, forests, and shallow beaches. In fact accomodation is mostly in camping sites rather than hotels.

Visitor hits from 23-Aug-07:

Two towers forming part of the town wall, surrounding and protecting old Tallinn since the 16th century. The right-hand tower is called 'Kiek-in-de-Kok'. This is Estonian and means "Peep into the Kitchen". Soldiers stationed here, on high ground, could watch for enemies outside the walls. But looking down upon Tallinn, the troops could also see everything going on in the town, peeping into houses' windows.
