Some local botanists think that the species in Malta is Ranunculus bulbosus subsp. aleae (Willkomm) Rouy & Foucault. Other botanists confirm the old records, that is all 3 species are present in Malta.
The difference between the two species is that R. bulbosus have tuberous or fleshy roots while R. macrophyllus are more fibrous. Other important differnces are that the R. bulbosus have reflexed sepals and grooved peduncle in contrast with the patent sepals and striated or terate peduncle in R. macrophyllus . |
