PHOTO GALLERY:
One Day in VASA and STOCKHOLM
June 2003

Page Description

This Photogallery consists of a collection of Photos from a one-day visit in the large cities of Vasa; in West of Finland and Stockholm; capital city of Sweden.

It was my first time visit to Vasa (Monday 16th June 03) and I was very pleased and attracted by it. So I have dedicated more photos on Vasa than to Stockholm which I already visited last June 2002.

Vasa contains many large, decorative and colourful painted buildings, an large astonishing church, lots of museums, such as the marine museum, beaches, islands, squares, parks, and also that cute colourful train. In vasa there are lot of universities and colleges and so most of the people are young aged. For instance Malin herself and many of her friends from Bennas came to study in Vasa. There is also good number of restaurants, shops and peaceful places to rest and have an ice cream. Vasa is a beautiful city and I liked it very much.

Visitor hits from 01-Oct-03:

Very large and beautiful church in the middle of a park. It is called the Trefaldighets Kyrka or Trinity Church. Constructed by small red bricks which means that it took ages to finish up this huge building. Unfortunately it was closed that time so we could not peep in.

Close up of the tower, revealing some architecture detail with high degree of gothic influence. Quite simple overall, but still impressive design.

I and Malin in the park beside this large church. There was flowers, many benches and a fountain which at that time was crowded by a dozen of teens. Maybe it is their 'headquarters' !

This is the university in which Malin studied accountancy for 4 years between 1994-1998. She immediately noticed how much the college have changed and been improved from last time she was here, about 5 yeasr ago. The college was very clean (as if it was new) and large. At that time it was school summer vacations, so there where very little people, however Main saw one of her ex-teachers !

Close up of Malin in front of the doorway footsteps. I wonder how many times she climbed these steps to go to college, sometimes jumping them up because she was late or rain!

Here is a small restroom inside the college. Nearby there was some lockers too. For me (under Maltese standards) it looks like a reception / waiting room of a well-known company!

This was the first building I saw in Vasa when we arrived in the afternoon. I thought it was some important structure or company but apparently it was just an old factory which used to make bread. Actually now is used as a restaurant and pub.

This is a statue of a Famous Finish writer in the 19th century - Zakarias Topelius in front of the park with the large church (Photo: Vasa-01). Last year I visited a museum of Topelius in Jakobstad (or was it Uusikaarlepyy) which actually was its home.

Here was the main square of Vasa with this statue in the centre. Unfortunately the this square was under extensive construction / repairs and so it was inaccessible. Apparently they where make some underground car park?!
