My Xmas Holidays in Stockholm + Bennas - 2002/03

Page Description

Here are many photos from my wonderful Christmas and New Year holiday together with my endless love girlfriend (Malin) in Sweden and Finland. The holiday was from 20th December 2002 to 3rd January 2003. I met Malin in Arlanda airport - Stockholm, since she lives in a nearby town called Marsta, some dozens of km south of Stockholm. The visit in Sweden was short - just 3 days, becasue on Sunday 22nd Dec we travelled to her home village - Bennas in Finland. Her I met most of her relatives and close friends. It was the first time for me that I experienced snow, and harsh cold conditions of max minus 32C. Well Finland is one the best places to celebrate Christmas (since it is the home of Santa Claus) and it was the best Christmas of my life. I got a better picture of the village and the way of living - which is nothing less from peace, family, serenity and good food and cakes!

Visitor hits from 20-Mar-03:

One of the few sunny days in Bennas. Such days are very beautiful, bright, and the snow glitters. Despite the sun, it was still very cold (sun has no heating effect!). Here is an open land covered with about a meter of snow

This is my girlfriend Malin and myself in the sofa of the living room on New Year's Eve. Plenty of Good food followed, and then we moved to another house (Malin's friend) and spent the New Year eve's talking and eating more good things and sweets

I never imagined such a photo in most of my life, standing in a cold place full of snow and ice. Here is a skating area in a large park in Stockholm. Gloves, two pairs of socks, cap, and jacket are obligatory here. This was the first real day I got a good impression of cold snow and ice, since I and Malin passed most of the day in Stockholm.

A group of jolly musicians dressed as Santa Claus and playing merry Xmas tunes. They were very funny indeed.

This is a place called Sigtuna, former capital city of Sweden many years ago. Houses are usually colourful and contrast well with the white snow.

This is a large frozen lake in Sigtuna. I was here in summer and the picture was completely different. Many people come here to ski, skate, make ski marathons (eg cross the lake to the other far side), or like Malin and me, just walk on the ice. It felt quite exciting to walk on a frozen lake, probably several dozens of meters deep.

And of course here is Malin and me together. The image is slanting because I had to place the camera on the camera bag and it was not a good leveled support - I could correct it with some Graphic Software, but Malin like it as it is, and so i leave it... actually quite cool effect
