SANGORG04-01 : Feast of Saint George, Qormi (Jun/04) |

Typical photo of the atmosphere of a village feast with a band playing joyful music, and people following it while it slowly matches along the important streets which are well decorated with statues, light, tapestry, etc.

Malin under a large crown at a street junction. Of course it is not meant for Malin to put it on her head, but this large crown have a sack inside that is usually filled with small pieces of coloured paper (like those at the wedding ceremonies) and when the band is beneath it, by means of a rope, someone will open the crown's sack and the paper will fall on the band and crowd.

Another similar thing as in the above photo, but in this case a large number of balloons are held by a net and are let free on the crowd at the finale, that is when the band arrives near it's band club and plays it's final melodies.

Photo of the wonderful light-decorated front face of the large church of the city of Qormi (West part). The church is decorated only during the feast week, that is 7 days from the feast of Saint George celebrated on the last Sunday of June.

Photo of how the church is decorated inside. I do not intend much about the names of the decorations to explain the photo, but it describes itself how rich and magnificent is the decoration inside the church, most of them are gold or silver.

One of the several small altars placed at the lateral part of the church. These altars are dedicated to different saints or biblical events, according to the painting above it. I could not recognize this female saint but who who intends will tell you immediately which saint it is from the posture or garments or possession of some particular object held by the saint. I would guess that this is the annunciation of Baby Jesus to Mary by the angel. There are about 4-6 of such small altars at the sides of the church and each is taken care and decorated by special persons / brotherhoods.

An altar made of silver at the left side of the main altar. The valuable decoration is impressive. I think if it would have been sold out, the money obtained would feed the whole of Kenya for an entire week

This is the main altar of the church from which the mass is preached. One could spend several minutes exploring the details of the decorations such as the altar, the carpets, the statues., the cross, the place where the Holy host is held, the tapestry, etc etc.
