Photo taken in front of the train station and this strange to funny statue which I am sure is not very old. Further to the right there is the bus terminus from where ther bus from the airport of Arlanda (Stockholm) transported us.
The statue is made by a local sculptor, Bror Hjort. Born 1895 in Malmoe in the South of Sweden and passed away in 1968. He was an arts professor with his own chair at the university of arts in Stockholm and his house/studio close to the Bothanical garden now serves as a museum. The statue on the picture is called "Näckens Polska" (The Reel of the Neck) and dates back to 1967.*

Here is a photo of some of the most beautiful, large or rich-looking building in the very center of Uppsala. I do not know the purpose of this building in the past and currently. This is the old town hall. (The new is two block down the street to the right of the old town hall and on the right hand.) Its currently serves as a concert hall, the head office for the public transportations company and the entrance floor hosts a pub/night club called Rådhuset (The Town Hall). *

Another photo of an important-looking building in the center of Uppsala. This was a complex with a shop at ground level (called Jaber) and offices for lawyers, etc in the upper levels.
The buidling is called Gamla Gillet meaning The old Craftsmens House. The craftsmen of the different trades built is and it later on housed the student union and after that served as a pool hall. It later bevame the county museum for Uppsala county. The museum moved up to the castle in 1995. The shop at ground level, Jaber is called after its founder, Jan Berglund and has been there since 1996. (the shop Jaber is 30 years old). The square outside the buidling is called Fyris torg, Fyris square and Fyris is also the name of the stream running through Uppsala. *

Another photo of an important-looking building in the center of Uppsala. Most buildings are painted in the hues of mustard yellow to orange brown. This house is the arch bishops house and office.

This photo is taken few meters away from the large cathedral of uppsala. It is a small church used before the cathedral was built (circa 1260). Thus this church is very old indeed.

This photo is one of the main bibliotech / libraries of all Sweden. There are very important and old books and documents here. As it can be seen in the photo it is a very large building. Just a comment on the name of the library, Carolina Rediviva. It's latin and Carolina refers to Carolus Rex, which is the latin the for King Karl - king at the time. Most people think it refers to a girl. *

This photo was taken few moments before leaving back to the airport. There were tables on the grass which were very inviting for a coffee siesta laid on the grass, but we simply had no time for that. I really liked the bright colours of this building. The house is Västgöta Nation, Västergötland is a county in the Southwest of Sweden. In Uppsala and Lund the students are organised in student nations. Most counties have nations in Uppsala and the house is that ot Västergötland. Västgöta nation (Natio Westgoticae in Latin) is the oldest in Sweden, founded in 1639.) I do not know how you walked around town but it might be that you remember a big statue in the park on the slope down from the Carolina library (picture 08) on the castle side of the street. Anyway that statue is of Västgöta nations most prominent member, Gunnar Wennerberg. He lived during the 19th century and studied in Uppsala (politics and music). He was professor at the university and also one of the kings (King Oscar II) advisors. *
