Page Description |
This photogallery consists of many photos from the city of Uppsala, the 4th largest in Sweden. It is situated about 40km from the Airport of Stockholm - Arlanda. I went to Uppsala in Summer 2004 (June and August) and it was another beautiful, clean, quite Swedish city. The most interesting sites are the large Botanical garden and the Cathedral. Since I have been there for only 1 day, I am sure that there is more and more to see in Uppsala. There is a description about every photo and the photogallery in nicely presented with navigation buttons and photo thumbnails.
This particular page contains photos of the huge and cathedral rich in old art such as paintings, marble statues, church decorations, tapestries, stained glass and gothic architecture. It is Scandinavia's largest church, founded in c. 1260 and inaugurated in 1435. It is also the national sanctuary of the Church of Sweden (Lutheran), and a archdiocesan and parish church. Here one finds the Tombs of king Gustav Vasa, King Johan III and their Queens, Carl Linnaeus and the Shrine od St. Erik.
The entrance to the cathedral was free of charge and I could take photos and film. It is really a great site seeing that one should not miss in Uppsala. Some photo description text is marked with an asterisk ' * '. This means that additional information was sent to me by mail by Andreas Heimbrandt, Research Assistant Dep. of Economics, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. Thanks Andreas!!! [MarZ]
